内容

企画趣旨

　パーソナリティ心理学会国際交流委員会では，研究者の国際交流の一環として，Samuel D. Gosling先生による講習会を開催いたします。Gosling先生は気鋭のパーソナリティ／社会心理学者であり，ユニークな方法論で研究を行っていることでも知られています。今回の講習会では，特にパーソナリティの測定方法に焦点を当て，ざっくばらんにお話しいただくことを考えております。(1)インターネットを使ったデータ収集，(2)Big Fiveモデルの簡略版，(3)動物のパーソナリティ測定についてのお話をしていただける予定です。多くの方々のご参加をお待ちしております。

要約

This informal presentation will focus on the multitude of challenges associated with measuring personality; the talk will draw on several lines of the author's research: (1) Internet: The rapid growth of the Internet provides a wealth of new research opportunities for psychologists. This talk will evaluate several preconceptions about data collected from self-selected samples over the internet, comparing them with traditional samples using paper-and-pencil methods. (2) Instrument development: The talk will summarize the author's recent research on instrument development, including the creation of a 10-item measure of the Big Five. (3) Animal personality: Consistent individual differences in personality have been identified in numerous non-human species, ranging from squid and hyenas to dogs and chimpanzees. The talk will use examples from research on several species to examine the ways in which personality can be measured in non-human animals; the talk will also consider the implications of this work in science (e.g., understanding the genetic bases of personality) and applied settings (e.g., identifying dogs well suited to explosive-detection, etc.).
